The four souls of Cordoba

A trip back in time… 2,000 years of history await you!

Experience Cordoba at the height of its historical splendour with four unforgettable themed tours. You will take a journey through Cordoba’s past, discovering the four cultures – Roman, Islamic, Hebrew and Christian – the four souls the city harbours in its innermost being.

CORDUBA was founded 2000 years ago by Roman emperor Claudius Marcellus. It soon became a favourite settlement for war veterans in search of relaxation and refuge from the rigours of fighting. Surrounded by stone walls in a layout similar to that of Rome, the city’s appearance was soon transformed by extraordinary temples, theatres, an amphitheatre, bridges, aqueducts and funerary altars… Retrace what remains of this splendid past and listen to what ruins have to say!

QURTUBA was the capital of Al-Andalus during the Islamic period and the most populous and advanced city in Europe during the Early Middle Ages. Founded by the Umayyad dynasty, hailing from present-day Syria, it was a paradigm of peaceful coexistence for a host of cultures and religions. Welcome to a precious “pearl of the Western world”, a shining gem of World Heritage as exemplified by the Great Mosque, with its stunning architecture and decorations still largely intact to this day.

Fall in love with the enlightened seclusion of Cordoba’s SEPHARDIC community, backdrop to the golden age of Hispano-Hebrew culture and an earthly paradise venerated by Jews worldwide. Walking through the narrow alleyways of the Jewish quarter – the best preserved in Spain – and passing into the silence of its Synagogue is like stepping back in time.

Chronologically the least ancient, Christian CORDOBA proudly shows off its impressive Fernandine churches, the imposing edifice of the castle and of course its cathedral. It leads in turn to historic gardens and palaces, the arts of flamenco and dancing horses, irresistible tapas paired with the wine of Montilla and the secluded intimacy of the patios.

Welcome to time travel at its most passionate!
