In the Early Middle Ages Cordoba was the largest city in Europe, and because it was a magnet for knowledge-hungry scholars who were drawn from all four corners of the world it was also the most learned. Dubbed \u201cthe emporium of science\u201d, \u201cthe birthplace of Muslim law\u201d and \u201cthe light of the West\u201d, the capital of Al-Andalus played a key role in the unfolding of history as a universal school.<\/p>\n
